Did they really slap SS badges on Maxxzzzz?

Yeah, they really did...
I think it actually had some performance chops to go with that badge, though, at least—

Wrong SS badge, but yea, they made a Malibu Maxx SS.

Unfortunately, yes. Though this is not one.

On one hand: Maxx SS is a real car: http://jalopnik.com/5967993/the-2006-malibu-maxx-ss-is-the-performance-face-of-general-motors
On the other hand, that one doesn’t have the right badges or badge placement, and doesn’t have any of the bodywork.
Still better than an M323i.

M323i? Ugh.
I have a 323ci. 99% sure a real Maxx SS would blow the doors off of it.

My two favorite (ab)uses of fake M badges are the aforementioned M323i and of course the MX5, where the owner of a large SUV is apparently unaware that the Miata exists.

Ha - yeah, I think I’ve seen the /MX5 on here somewhere.
Lately I’ve been seeing a LOT of Focus/Fiestas with ST badges slapped on them. Including one that had the ultra rare SE/ST combo package, only way you can get a slushbox in a FoST. /s

Rented a base one once - not memorable.

They did. That isn’t one.
My brother had one, actually... it was awesome. Not the fastest thing ever because they only dropped the 3.9 in it, but adequate—and it felt great. Handled well. Hung on way better than it should have. Effortless cruiser, too. Rode well.

Nothing unfortunate about it. It was great. Was it SS great? No. RS, or just “Sport”, would have suited it better... but regardless it was a nicely set up car.

I recall a base one I rented being comfortable on the highway.

From firsthand experience I can tell you those “slight” upgrades equaled an awesome car. It handled well, cruised very well, and never felt underpowered. It wasn’t the quickest thing because it only had 240hp, but it had an equal amount of torque and felt great off the line.
They really worked some magic with that beigemobile it was based on.

Yeah, I’m not the least biased source, admittedly...
But seriously. My brother had one. It drove very well. Even the interior had some thought put into it. The seats were comfortable and supportive, the back bench slid(!), double rear moonroof etc. Of course there were still loose trim pieces... it’s a 2000's GM product. But for once they actually seemed to make an effort—most of the rough edges their cars of the time had were gone.

I actually wanted one of those things back then, especially when I was moving back and forth from university with a teeny Cavalier. Would’ve mad moving a whole lot easier.

Someone on my local car group spotted the rare Fiesta RS SE.

Ooh, Fiesta RS! 350 HP AWD in that little body!
If only.
Just the other day I saw a Jekyll and Hyde Fiesta - SE rear, but they slapped an ST grille on it.

Oooh, so you put a little tune on it? That’s gotta be fun. I sat in the FoST and FoRS up at Oshkosh recently - I was a lot more comfortable than I remembered in the Recaros. Made me itch for a test drive...

Just a Stratified flash tune at the moment, but I hope to have at least an intercooler by next summer, and possibly a downpipe. Even as a bigger guy, I love my Recaros. People just don’t give them a chance to break in.

Yeah, somehow I sat in the Recaros (FoST I’m sure) a year or so ago and hated them. But the seats in the FoRS fit me like a glove (FoST on display there didn’t have them).
That’s a nice little bump from the flash— moar is always better, but that’s a nice number for that car.

Hydraulic steering versus electric on the others for better road feel. I always thought that showed Chevy made some effort.

I think once I get an intercooler and downpipe I should be able to make 220-230whp, while not heat soaking. I’ve now sat in all 3, and I think they are all different. The RS has the softest seats, the FiST has the tightest seats, and the FoST is kind of in between. I love my seats though, it’s one of my favorite parts of the car.
